Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah, general secretary of Barishal Metropolitan Awami League, has been accused of setting fire to the election office of Boat’s election office in the Barishal-5 constituency. Zahid Faruk Shamim, the Awami League candidate for the Barishal Sadar constituency, made the allegation at a press conference at the Barishal Press Club on 6 January 2024.
At the press conference, Zahid Faruk Shamim said, “They are doing all these arson attacks. The fire that broke out in my camp – my people did not do that. They [Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah’s men] are setting this fire and blaming the BNP. But the fire was not set by the BNP.
“They are covering up [with BNP’s name] but the attack was done by the truck’s advisors. They are doing it in the name of BNP. They are trying to disrupt the peace and order of the people of Barisal.”
